JLP’s Dalrymple-Philibert says unavailability of some voters may impact turnout

Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate for today's Trelawny Southern by-election Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert says the voter turnout may be impacted by the unavailability of key electors such as farmers.
Speaking with reporters in Warsop, Dalrymple-Philibert argued that many farmers, which make up a large portion of the constituency, will not get to vote as they are out tending to their farms or selling their produces at markets across Jamaica.
“This is a farming community, so a lot of our farmers leave on a Thursday and they don't come back home until Saturday,” she said.
“Although there is an election, people still have to live their lives, children have to go to school and so on,” she added, arguing that like farmers teachers may be challenged to vote today.
Despite this, she said other electors have out on their numbers and that she harbours no thoughts about losing to independent candidate Lloyd Gillings, who is aiming at 3,500 votes to win.
“My focus is on the Jamaica Labour Party and the people of Trelawny Southern,” declared Dalrymple-Philibert.
