Errald Miller Conferred with Fellowship of The City and Guilds of London Institute

The Most Honourable Errald Miller, renowned businessman and husband of the prime minister, has just been conferred with the Diploma of Fellowship of the City and Guilds of London Institute. This took place during an intimate ceremony and reception at the residence of the British high commissioner, on Tuesday, March 31.

This conferment marks another major milestone in Jamaican history. First awarded in December 1892, only three other Jamaicans have received this prestigious fellowship: Lord Bill Morris, Professor Gosset Oliver, and Sir Howard Cooke (deceased). The Fellowship of the City and Guilds of London Institute is the highest honour to be awarded by the council. It is awarded to remarkable individuals who have demonstrated the highest standards of excellence in their field, earned the respect of their peers, and are deemed role models of their profession.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller stated: "As prime minister, it is fitting that I join in celebrating this special moment when a distinguished Jamaican, the Most Honourable Errald Miller, joins the ranks of several other distinguished and outstanding Jamaicans as the proud recipient of Fellowship of the City and Guilds of London Institute. It is understandable, too, that I am here to support my husband and best friend on this special occasion, when his lifetime of stellar achievements is recognised by one of the leading technical and vocational institutions in the world. I join you all in extending heartfelt congratulations to Errald Miller and say to him: I am indeed proud of you."

On receiving the Diploma of Fellowship, Errald Miller stated "Firstly, I thank God for His mercy and blessings. I am heartened by this award, coming as it does after many years of very hard work on my part, and I would like to thank my nominators, the members of the nomination committee of the council and the council of The City and Guilds of London Institute, for bestowing this great honour on me. I would also like to thank my family, mentors, friends and colleagues for their support and advice over this period." He shared stories from his formative years, some funny, some touching, many inspiring, and all helping to paint the picture of his education, career, and life path leading up to the fellowship.
