JHTA MoBay celebrates 'Fine Jamaican Cuisine'

​Oversubscribed, best describes the awesome and fabulous seventh staging of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association's 'Celebration of Fine Jamaican Cuisine' at the Rose Hall Great House last Saturday night.

With over 500 patrons in attendance, the JHTA Montego Bay Chapter, outdid themselves, showcasing their prowess as culinary maestros.

As tasty and sumptuous as the food was, it was the sounds and the antics of the PACE band that left guests hungry for more. The environmental advocacy towards the ban on the use of single-use plastics and styrofoam, also took centrestage.

Each booth used only biodegradable products - plastic plates, forks and spoons were replaced with sugarcane bagasse, bamboo fibre compostable plates along with bamboo forks and spoons.

Excited about the effort, president of the JHTA, Omar Robinson, said that the JHTA is steadfast in its strong support of the proposed ban, noting the implications for small islands such as Jamaica, whose economic development and food security are so closely tied to the natural environment.

While jamming to the sweet sounds of music, and sampling the great offerings by hotels such as Hilton Rose Hall, Riu Resorts, Deja Resort, Round Hill Hotel, and Villas, Tryall Club and Half Moon, Robinson argued that urgent action was needed to halt the long-term effects on the environment and the food chain.

The full support from the association's members was evident at the annual food and wine event.
