Kids Hair Club, a fun sanctuary
A trip to the hair salon should be fun and relaxing for children. If you’ve had to comfort a screaming and kicking child during a haircut or hairdo, you’ll definitely agree.
Tamara Lawrence Edwards, a mother of an eight-year-old, understands the need for such a welcoming environment, so she opened Kids Hair Club, a haircare sanctuary for your little ones.
Successfully executing her first entrepreneurial venture, Edwards opened the doors to her salon in March of this year. The beauty care shop is located at Manor Centre in St Andrew.
“My daughter inspired me to start up this business. I use to take her to the regular salon with me, but she is not one of the easiest children to deal with. She was very fussy and cried every time she had her hair combed. So, I figured it was becoming an uncomfortable environment for the other adults,” she said.
This revelation caused her to search for a more child-friendly territory for her daughter’s need. She found one, but still wasn’t happy. Making her weekly 8 a.m. appointment on the weekend became challenging over time. That’s when Lawrence Edwards, a business manager by profession, decided to take a bold step into the enterprising realm.
“Plus, the shortage of these types of salon, the flaws of other salons and what I discovered during research, further pushed me to opening my shop,” the go-getter explained.
UNIQUE FEATURES
The accommodating environment houses a comfortable reading corner. It acts as a waiting station as children queue for the services offered at the beauty shop.
Lawrence Edwards’ professional team of two hairstylists and a barber ardently serves clients. Their adoration for children has helped to create a loving, peaceful and entertaining surrounding for the youngsters that is also void of inappropriate languages. The setting makes the beauty session enjoyable, with an amusement package that includes access to technological devices, such as tablets, and television to distract a child through a wash and blow, cornrows, plaits, braids, hair straightening, cuts, fade and ‘line-ups’.
“What makes us different is our appointment system. It allows parents and caretakers to make appointments for any time of the day. That’s unlike salons that allow you to make appointments only for early-morning sessions and then it’s a first-come, first-serve routine afterwards,” she said.
Kids Hair Club has recently introduced home services to its clients in and around the Kingston and St Andrew area.
Currently, the establishment only focuses on haircare. However, Lawrence Edwards looks forward to offering other services in the future. These will include manicure and pedicure to pamper her young customers.
Kids Hair Club is open seven days a week. For more details, contact the establishment at 876-353-6245.
