The local shipping industry wrapped up Maritime Awareness Week activities (September 20-26), recognising the contributions of Jamaican seafarers to the development of the country.

Five major industry partners - The Caribbean Maritime Institute, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica, the Port Authority of Jamaica, the Shipping Association of Jamaica, and Kingston Wharves Ltd - organised and executed the series of events with the support of various sponsors.

The International Maritime Organisation theme was 'Maritime Education and Training', which brought focus to the importance of supporting the continued development and growth of the sector through education in satisfying the international demand for a continuous supply of highly trained maritime and logistics specialists.
