MAJ salutes seafarers

In this year when the world is asked to recognise the importance of shipping to the global economy through the World Maritime Day theme for 2016, 'Shipping: Indispensable to the World', we must also be reminded of the critical role seafarers play in operating the ships that convey global trade. They ensure that the goods and commodities are delivered to our ports safely and with due regard for the preservation of the marine environment.

On Seafarers' Day, June 25, 2016, the Maritime Authority of Jamaica joins in saluting our seafarers who work on ships all over the planet. They often times work under arduous conditions, night and day, spending weeks and months away from their families and loved ones, while engaging in meaningful employment. Seafarers contribute not only to their own well-being, but also that of Jamaica.

Congratulations, Jamaica's seafarers, we are proud of you.
