The Shipping Association of Jamaica joined 49 other entities invited by the Ministry of Education to participate in the 2017 staging of the Mathematics Expo. Thousands of students were engaged in activities designed to stimulate their interest in mathematics. They were exposed to real-world applications which demonstrate how abstract concepts are relevant to everyday situations. There was an emphasis on games, having fun and the use of models and activities to assist students to get over their fear of the subject.
