On September 28, the Caribbean Maritime Institute hosted its charter day ceremony at the National Arena. The festivities, which took place on World Maritime Day, included the installation of the university's chancellor, Professor Fritz Pinnock, as well as its president and deputy president. There was also the awarding of two honorary doctoral degrees.

The ceremony was well attended by leaders of civic society, as well as members of the shipping community. Prime Minister Andrew Holness gave the keynote address.
