MoBay lit up
WESTERN BUREAU:
Thousands converged on Sam Sharpe Square for the Municipal Tree-Lighting Ceremony and star-studded concert on Monday.
It was also an evening when the City of Montego Bay recognised its greatest supporters, mobile giants Digicel, for being the 'Bigger, Better Supporter' for all of 13 years, and the Jamaica Public Service, for its unwavering commitment to ensuring Montegonians had a well-lit tree.
Beaming with pride, Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Glendon Harris, stated that the lighting of the tree was a symbolic gesture that forms the backdrop against which the St James Parish Council encourages unity and peace.
"In lighting our Christmas tree this year, we hope that its original message - the spreading of joy, peace and love - will be permeated throughout the city and across the parish," he told the throng who stayed glued to the event, awaiting the arrival of Digicel Rising Stars Romain Virgo.
The Jamaican artiste was among a fantastic line-up of acts that included George Nooks, Kahlil, Joan Flemming, Purity Singers, Singing Jewels, and the MACC Singers from Mount Alvernia High School and Cornwall College.
Their performances were complemented by the Providence Heights Community Band.
