Cheers to Europe Day
The annual celebration of Europe Day, was observed in fine style at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Tuesday night. Celebrating peace and unity in the European Union, diplomats, government officials and other specially invited guests, made their way into the lavish ballroom after being greeted by the man of the hour Charge d'Affaires of the European Union Jose Luis Martinez Prada and his wife Kirsten.
Friends, colleagues and even strangers, mingled over glasses of wine and champagne as they took the opportunity to enjoy the Jamaica National Building Society's resolution project, that was exhibited in all corners of the room. Spearheaded by the Jamaica National Foundation, it showcases the talent of local artists.
The official formalities were short and sweet as Martinez Prada took to the stage to welcome everyone. He spoke briefly of the history of Europe Day, noting it's significance to the union and the world. He then From there he segued to highlighting the strong ties between Jamaica and the EU, expressing his wish that this link will be strengthened in the future.
Minister of Finance Audley Shaw who spoke on behalf of the Jamaican government, also explored the deep connection between the EU and our island, with hopes to foster and fortify these relations to prosperity.
With a toast to both countries signalling the close of the formal proceedings, many guests dispersed to the food stations and indulged in a choice of salad, jerk pork, curried chicken and roti, and lamb, and shrimp, just to name a few. They also treated themselves the wide array of sweet treats before returning to regular programming scintillating
conversation.
