French Embassy opens new doors

Last Friday morning, the French Embassy opened the doors to their new offices at 13 Hillcrest Avenue, showing Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamila Johnson-Smith what their new abode looks like.

The prime minister congratulated France Ambassador Jean-Michel Despax on his relocation. With the size of their current staff, the previous building was not appropriate for the operations of the embassy. As a result, they decided to relocate to the new space on their home grounds. The date for the relocation (July 14), was specially selected as it is France's National Day Bastille Day.

The presence of the Prime Minister and Senator Johnson Smith, was particularly important as it was the opportunity to convey to Jamaica that France remains committed to the continuation of the excellent bilateral relations both countries have maintained since Jamaica's independence in 1962.
