Deryck Gibson - 'The Fittest Man in the Industry'
When businessman Deryck Gibson launched his book, The Fittest Man in the Industry, at the Spanish Court hotel in St Andrew, it acted as a testament to what can be achieved with determination and hard work.
Gibson is chairman of Deryck A. Gibson Limited, Gibson Energy Limited and Heave-Ho Properties Century-21 Limited. The launch was punctuated with reflections of the development of Jamaica's industrial landscape, memories of some of the persons who helped to influence Jamaica's business development, and ideas on how persistence bears fruits.
R. Danny Williams, who Chaired the event, amused the audience with anecdotes about his colleagues, including Gibson, with whom he has been associated for over 40 years. He noted that the publication was an excellent read for persons of all ages who want a realistic perspective of how one can start with very little and achieve success with determination and a willingness to work hard.
The many speakers at the event, including Robert Scott, honorary consul for Latvia, and Gibson's daughter, Deborah Cumming, all lauded Gibson for his accomplishments and highlighted the positive effects he has had on their lives.
Author Hylton Dennis, who sat with Gibson for many hours to pen the publication, said that through his discussions with him, he has developed tremendous appreciation and admiration for Gibson's ability to successfully seek opportunities, overcome challenges and emerge as one of Jamaica's most respected and revered business professionals.
Gibson, who was obviously delighted with the turnout, thanked the audience for their enthusiastic support and expressed his willingness to personally sign copies of the publication that are earmarked for schools.
