A discussion that has the attention of everyone seems quite interesting to those looking on. From left are Dave DaCosta, head of digital marketing and communications; Radcliffe Daley, chief auditor at the GraceKennedy Group of Companies; Dr Richard Desnoes and Stephen Dear, banker.

The Hard Rock Cafe in Freeport, Montego Bay, was the platform for a large gathering of members of the business sector who mingled and enjoyed light conversations as First Global Bank (FGB) recently hosted its Monday Club.

Considered an exclusive group, the Monday Club is hosted monthly by a number of organisations in Montego Bay and serves as a platform where company executives, professionals and business operators network and exchange relevant information related to a wide cross-section of industries.

For the past six years, FGB, a subsidiary of the GraceKennedy Group of Companies, has been sponsoring the staging of the event. At the event, Group CEO Don Wehby led a team of senior executives from across the GraceKennedy Group to lyme with customers and business professionals.

Wehby said he and members of his team were pleased to share the company of some of the leading businessmen in Montego Bay but emphasised that he deemed it more of an honour for his organisation to be hosting the event.

Wehby added that since FGB joined the club and became a sponsor, he has always personally made it compulsory to be in the western city for its staging.

"It's an event where businessmen simply network and talk about everything - business, social [or] religious topics or simply just have a good laugh," Wehby noted.

"It is really a very special occasion for First Global Bank and the GraceKennedy Group in general. I always like to be in MoBay spending time with the business people. I am truly fascinated by the turnout. It is overwhelming."

He recalls that when the request was made of FGB to become a regular sponsor of the Monday Club, it was without hesitation that they welcomed the idea.

"We had already opened up a branch in Montego Bay, so it was a real fit for us. The community has benefited, and so has FGB," said Wehby.

And with several subsidiaries of the GraceKennedy Group operating in Montego Bay, Wehby said it is always mutually beneficial to build good relations in the communities in which they operate.

In 2001, GraceKennedy acquired the Trafalgar Commercial Bank and a few years later, bought the Citi Bank retail banking portfolio in Montego Bay and rebranded it First Global Bank.

"We have a clear vision of the direction in which we intend to deliver on personalised service - to build our banking network through technology to include digital products, which will be launched later this year. We are very excited about the bank's future," he said.
