NCB sponsors InterCol Champs

THE two-day Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships scheduled for March 31 and April 1 is expected to be the biggest in years.
On Wednesday, National Commercial Bank (NCB) announced a whopping $3 million sponsorship for the meet at a function held at the NCB Wellness and Recreation Centre, Phoenix Avenue.
The meet will be held at the National Stadium for the first time in many years. Meet director will be noted track and field coach Paul Francis of Quality Logistics. He will be assisted by MVP President Bruce James.
The meet will now be known as the NCB Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships. Associate sponsors are Digicel and Lucozade. NCB will also be donating $200,000 each to the top male and female performers at the meet, while record breakers will be given cash incentives from Digicel.
Staying in Jamaica
Secretary of Intercollegiate Sports, Paula Daley Morris, thanked the various sponsors for their donations.
"Today is a very special day for intercollegiate track and field. Our athletes are playing a major role at the senior level, and we are extremely happy for the sponsorship. Most of our high-school graduates are now staying back in Jamaica, as the various institutions are playing major roles in awarding sports scholarships to these students," said Daley-Morris.
This year's Championships is expected to be another thriller, as last year's top schoolgirl sprinter, former Edwin Allen High athlete Christania Williams, will team up with the likes of Janeive Russell, Megan Simmonds, Chrisdale McCarthy, Shericka Jackson, Shanice Bonner, and Elaine Thompson at the University of Technology. On the male side, the top athletes will include Andrew Fisher, Kimarrley Brown and Julian Forte.
