Bonner impresses at UWI Invitational

FORMER Queens School and Holmwood Technical sprinter, Chanice Bonner, who has been a fixture on several national junior teams, has been having a breakout season in her first year at the University of Technology (UTech).

Bonner was impressive on Saturday at the UWI Invitational Track and Field meet at the UWI/Usain Bolt Track.

After anchoring her team to victory twice this season in the 4x100 metres at the Milo Western Relays and the Gibson-McCook Relays, Bonner showed on Saturday that those runs earlier were no fluke.

Racing in the women's Olympic development 100m, she took some big scalps, including MVP's Carrie Russell, as she sprinted to an impressive personal best of 11.35 seconds, leaving Russell in her wake in second in 11.53. Sedaith Palmer of Racers was third in 11.85 seconds.

good showings

There were other good showings in the 100m for athletes preparing for next week's NCB Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships.

Kedeisha Dallas led the way for G.C. Foster College after winning in 11.69 seconds, getting the better of the UTech pair of Shimarya Williams (11.69) and Janelle Kelly (11.75).

Tyquendo Tracey clocked the fastest time on the day among male athletes in the 100m, as he stopped the clock at 10.24 seconds.

Nicholas Walters of MVP (10.35) and Dexter Lee of Akan Track Club (10.37) were second and third, respectively.

Kevean Smith romped to victory in the collegiate men's 100m, with a fast 10.29 seconds, the second-fastest time on the day among the males.
