The fleet-footed four-year-old colt TALENTED TONY K made all the running to win the three-year-old and up open allowance race over 1100 metres at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Ridden by top apprentice O'Brien White for trainer Lorne Kirlew, TALENTED TONY K installed a 3-5 favourite in a field of six, turned for home clear of the chasing TRADITIONAL PRINCE (4-5) and kept on strongly to win by two and a half lengths from the late-running DEO VOLENTE (3-1), who got up in time to beat TRADITIONAL PRINCE for second.

TALENTED TONY K, who as a three-year-old in 2014 won both the 2000 Guineas and Lotto Classic (Governor's Cup), was notching his second win from four starts this season and his sixth from 15 career starts for total stakes of $7.1 million. He had previously beaten TRADITIONAL PRINCE over the straight five course on January 31, equalling the track record of 56.1 in the process.

"He was down to carry a light impost and with his main rival Traditional Prince asked to give him 4.5kg and not much speed present in a small field, I was confident that he would have won easily," said Kirlew, the second-generation trainer who named the horse after his late brother, Tony Kirlew, also a trainer of note, who died tragically in the summer of 2012.

"Right now, the horse is in very good nick and his next objective is the Lotto Sprint Trophy grade-one race, again over 1100 metres, at the big Lotto Classic race meet on Saturday, May 23."

Earlier in the afternoon, the Harry Parsard-trained three-year-old colt, SUPERLUMINAL, with Paul 'Country' Francis aboard, created a 16-1 upset in the opening race over 1700 metres for native-bred three-year-olds, holding on well to beat highly fancied KRONUS by a neck in a field of eight.

Francis had a second winner in 5-2 chance COUNTRY TRAIN for trainer Marlon Anderson, while Robert Halledeen and champion jockey Dane Nelson also rode two winners, Nelson aboard, 4-5 favourite GOOD LIFE and ZEEVA at 7-1.
