'My Day will come'

Wiry Jamaican 400m athlete Christine Day does not carry the big-ticket status of others in the event, but with steady improvements over the past couple seasons, the Jamaican is looking to establish herself on the Diamond League circuit.

Day will face a tough field that includes world leader Sanya Richards-Ross, Francena McCorory, Natasha Hastings as well as compatriots Stephenie-Ann McPherson and Novlene Williams-Mills at today's Doha Diamond League meet inside the Qatar Sports Club.

However, the 28-year-old Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner and London 2012 Olympic relay silver medallist is eager to continue honing her craft and testing herself against the best on the planet.

"I'm always excited to compete in the Diamond League series, you get to face the best quarter-milers in the world. So to get a feel of them week in week out, you learn so much and get more comfortable running against these girls," Day told The Gleaner. "I just love to compete and I don't really look at times and so on of the other girls, I focus on how I am going to execute and try to adjust throughout the race if needed."

"It's all about working to get better and working to become one of the favourites on the circuit and also at the World Championships and other major events," said Day, who, last season, improved her personal best to a solid 50.16 at the National Senior Championships.
