Oslo Diamond League: Season’s best for Campbell-Brown despite defeat
OSLO, Norway:
Veronica Campbell-Brown was beaten into second place in the 100m at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games today.
The seven-time Olympic medallist was, pre-race, of the opinion that she could emulate compatriot Kerron Stewart and dip under the 11 second barrier.
It was not to be as she was beaten to the line by Ivory Coast’s Murielle Ahoure who registered 11.03 seconds while the Jamaican notched a season’s best 11.08. Cristina Oliveira Santos of Brazil, 11.27, came home third.
Despite Campbell-Brown’s impressive CV, which includes gold medals at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games and World Indoor Championships, the lauded sprinter was making her IAAF Diamond League bow in Oslo.
However, she did not get out of the blocks with any great fluency and the African always had the race under control.
The veteran sprinter will now turn her thoughts to the national trials where she has said she will double up in the 100m and 200m.
