McLeod wins NCAA title

Sprint hurdler Omar McLeod has hit top form two weeks before the National Senior Championships.

McLeod won the 110 metres hurdles last Friday at the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Outdoor Track and field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, clocking a wind-aided 13.01 seconds.

Unbeaten all season in the event, and the top-ranked Jamaican with 13.21, McLeod was pushed by a 3.9 metres per second wind.

With this win, McLeod became the Arkansas University's second-ever National champion in the sprint hurdles. He also became the first athlete to sweep the 60m (indoor) and 110m hurdles since 2009 when Ronnie Ash did so for Bethune Cookman University.

McLeod, who had earlier ran the opening leg when his team clocked 38.47 to win the sprint relay, was very delighted with his performances.

"Winning the 110m hurdles meant the world to me. I didn't think the race was executed to my best, though, and I definitely felt like I could have ran faster. I wasn't as fresh because I had the 4x100m 30 minutes before, and the wind messed up my race plan, as it was pushing me into the hurdles really quick, so I was forced to react real fast and stayed composed," the former Manchester High and Kingston College past student said.
