JCF champs this weekend

The Jamaica Cycling Fede-ration (JCF) is looking to stage one of the most exciting and competitive national senior and junior championships this summer.

The two-day championships starts at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning with a time trial, which will feature juniors and females attacking a 15-mile course. That journey will be from Agualta Vale to Whitehall in St Mary and back.

"I am hoping we will get a large turnout of riders as this event is geared towards getting them prepared for upcoming Caribbean championships for both seniors and juniors in October," said cycling federation vice-president Marvin Anderson.

Anderson notes that while Jamaica's top rider, Marloe Rodman, is currently off the island competing, he expects leading senior cyclists Oneil Samuels and Oshane Williams to be in action this weekend along with juniors Merrick Williams and Daniel Palmer.

Female cyclist Dahlia Palmer will also return to the island from riding in the semi-professional league in Trinidad for the

championships.

Elite and masters will face off over a 26.7 mile course from Agualta Vale to Port Maria in St Mary and back.

"I expect this weekend to be fascinating, with over 90 riders across the board," Anderson told The Gleaner.

On Sunday, there will be a road race featuring juniors and females over 30 miles from Annotto Bay, St Mary, to Ocho Rios in St Ann.

Elite and masters will complete over a 61.95 miles course from Port Antonio (Portland) to Ocho Rios in St Ann.
