WINNIPEG, Canada (CMC):

Jamaican jockey Dane Nelson and Barbadian Chris Husbands both rode braces, but Chavion Chow, also Jamaican, made off with honours when he captured the feature CAN$25,000 Manitoba Mile Stakes at Assiniboia Downs here Sunday.

Chow, the championship leader, paired with favourite Magic D'oro to dominate the three-year-olds and upward over a mile, to win by five lengths.

Chow leads the standings with 39 wins, three clear of Husbands in second, with Nelson, Adolfo Morales and Guyanese Rohan Singh, in a three-way tie for third on 35 wins.

Nelson, meanwhile, grabbed his share of the spotlight when he won race four aboard 4-1 chance Truly Ilean, beating the three-year-old and upward maiden fillies and mares by 11-3/4 lengths going a mile. He returned in race seven, the day's final event, to steer Early Speed to a comfortable two-length win going five furlongs for the three-year-old fillies and mares who have never won two races.

Husbands also pushed his way into the headlines, winning the day's opener aboard 4-1 bet Lotus Lane going 7-1/2 furlongs before returning to win race two in a gate-to-wire effort with 7-1 outsider Denouement, in a mile and sixteenth trip for the three-year-olds yet to win a race this year.
