Start 2025 on a positive note with Legacy Isle
LEGACY ISLE, caught at the wire by fellow American FUNCAANDUN in December’s Mouttet Mile, returns for Wednesday’s Miracle Man Cup ridiculously sitting at level weight with ATLANTIC CONVOY, winner of the grade two Bruceontheloose that same afternoon.
Tevin Foster, who gallantly battled Raddesh Roman for the 2024 jockeys’ title to the last race of the day, losing by one winner, partners LEGACY ISLE for Rohan Crichton, who has another Florida invader, Mouttet Mile third-place COMMANDANT, ready to plunder the Fan Appreciation Day Trophy with Roman.
COMMANDANT, who finished a length behind LEGACY ISLE, humorously shares topweight with INTRESTNTIMESAHEAD, who was approximately 10 lengths behind him in the Mouttet Mile, a dual mockery of the conditions, which now treat the Floridians as though they were always domiciled locally while ignoring their performances in the biggest race of the year.
Neither race is worth a conversation. LEGACY ISLE was never worse than second, at any point, in the Mouttet Mile, which he lost by a neck after sprinting clear off the home turn.
COMMANDANT, not as quick as LEGACY ISLE, raced fourth down the backstretch in the Mouttet Mile, straightened third and even appeared threatening in the stretch run.
The distances are right up Creighton runners’ streets. LEGACY ISLE should trample rivals at seven furlongs whereas COMMANDANT will relish nine furlongs and 25 yards at the level below where he placed third in the Mouttet Mile.
The New Year’s Day Trophy, at six and a half furlongs, should also be won by a foreigner, Philip Feanny’s TITAN TEMPO, who led off the home turn at seven and a half furlongs two Saturdays ago, showing his appreciation for middle distance, before being overhauled by TRAIN OF THOUGHT emerging from the woodwork.
