Hot clash at Jarrett Park

A full slate of matches will be contested this afternoon in the Inter-zone round of the 2015 ISSA-FLOW daCosta Cup, but none can rival the Zone 2 clash between two of the winningest schools in the history of the competition.

Cornwall College and Rusea's High School, arguably the Cup's biggest rivalry, share a common and healthy respect for each other. Not only do they account for 21 titles between them, but they also account for two of the largest following in local schoolboy football.

And this time will be no different, as throngs of supporters are expected to make their way to Jarrett Park.

It should be an intriguing match with Rusea's super talented striker Deshane Beckford and Cornwall's Jourdain Fletcher and Alrick Ottey on show.

The two top two will face off at 6 p.m. in the feature match of a triple header at Jarrett Park.

Cornwall enter the game the happier of the two, having won their opening match in the Inter-zone, a 1-0 win over Herbert Morrison on Wednesday while Rusea's were held 1-1 by Petersfield.

But for Aaron Lawrence, the Rusea's coach, the game is only won on the field of play and not on past results.

"Cornwall are one of those teams touted to win this year, but we are not concerned about that. We have been training well and the players are ready for this," Lawrence said.

Cornwall's coach Dr Dean Weatherly believes a victory will put them on the brink of winning the zone, and is predicting a good game against his rivals.

"We are treating it as a do-or-die game, because a win for us will all but put us in the next round and also the Super Cup, so it's a vitally important game," stated Weatherly.
