An intriguing 2016 season-opener in the Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) Sunshine Open League netball competition will take centre stage at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, at the Leila Robinson Courts in Kingston.

Following what is expected to be a colourful opening ceremony and uniform parade at 1:00 p.m., two sets of matches are scheduled to be played.

The competition will feature a total of 72 teams vying for supremacy, and the defending champions are Mico 'B'.

The Mico team is coached by Annette Daley and they will no doubt be looking to retain their trophy and play an exciting brand of netball.

Meanwhile, the consolation 'B' trophy was won by Molynes United 'A', who according to coach George Pryce are "confident of winning another trophy this year".

"We are always ready. We have gotten back players from other leagues and colleges overseas, so our team is a good mixture of youth and experience, and we have a full complement," he said.

They will line up against Wolmer's A in the 'A' competition and against Duhaney Strikers in the 'B' category.

Another winner who will feature today is Westchester, who defeated Maxfield Park Community Club 8-5 to take the Jo Wigman Rally.

Today's competition will mark the 23rd year of sponsorship by JN of the competition which welcomes one new team, Rose Town. Each team will play two games per day.
