Master Chin off to Trinidad workshop

MASTER Claude Chin left the island on Friday for Trinidad and Tobago to conduct a two-day International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) workshop, which started yesterday in the twin-island republic.

Chin, a seventh-degree black belt and coach of Jamaica's all-conquering combined martial arts team, was invited by Euge Taekwon-Do Academy to help prepare its team for the 2016 ITF World Cup in Budapest, Hungary.

While in Trinidad, Chin will also oversee an examination for black belt candidates. Last year, the Jamaica Taekwon-Do Association honoured Chin, alongside Peter Lue, another Jamaican master, and 71-year-old Grandmaster Han Sam Soo, one of the pioneers of tae kwon do, who had introduced the martial art to Jamaica in 1974.

Han, who spent three years in Jamaica establishing tae kwon do, praised Chin and Lue for maintaining high standards.

"Jamaica is lucky to have two great masters. Masters Lue and Chin are doing a great job for tae kwon do in Jamaica. They are my original students, who started learning as white belts. I am really proud of those two masters," he said.
