STETHS blank Black River in ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup

St  Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) forward, Jovoney Brown, netted his seventh goal in as many matches and Demar James fired home a brace as the defending champions slammed Black River High 3-0 in yesterday’s Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)-FLOW daCosta Cup football match at Black River High.

Brown was on target from the penalty spot in the ninth minute, while James scored in the 21st and 34th minutes of a game thoroughly dominated by the champions, who hardly needed to break a sweat in handing Black River their sixth loss.

The win takes STETHS up to 15 points from seven matches, with Lacovia High and Munro College battling for the next automatic qualifying spot. Black River will now be playing for pride.

The only bright spark for Black River was the Rene Higuita-styled outfield play by their goalkeeper, Davian Gayle, who looked more comfortable with the ball at his feet than standing between the sticks.

Gayle has now conceded 13 goals in all against STETHS alone this season and as a team, the Kirk Williams-coached Black River has seen 34 goals hit the back of their net, while they have scored a mere four times so far.
