Clarendon stun JC in FLOW Cup

Jamaica College, the 2014 ISSA-FLOW Super Cup champions, were booted from this year's competition after they were clipped 1-0 by Clarendon College at Sabina Park yesterday.

The result is a big one for Clarendon who came into the contest as one of the unseeded daCosta Cup teams.

Clarendon played fearless and free-flowing football which stunned the reigning Manning Cup holders.

Creggton Charlton scored the winner in the 50th minute after a lightning fast Clarendon College counter-attack, in a match which was played on a wet field.

According to the forward and captain, the goal was special.

"It's a good feeling to score the winning goal. To give my team the win is tremendous. They beat us in the 2014 Olivier Shield and, now, I have taken my revenge," Charlton said.

While the first half was an almost even contest, JC went on the offensive early, creating chances but just could not finish. They did get the ball into the net but Demale Sinclair was ruled offside.

With six minutes injury time added, Donovan Dawkins went close to finding the equaliser for JC. but his low, hard shot was saved by Clarendon's goalkeeper Benjamin Williams.

Winning coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis said Clarendon were always confident they could get past JC.

"We did not fear JC. This is Clarendon College and people should stop this foolishness about underdogs, any team can win. Football is football. We came here to win, not to lose in the first round," he stressed.

"You are always upset when you lose, but it wasn't a bad game. Clarendon, in the second half, were quicker to the first and second ball, and they were able to score a goal, so hats off to them," JC's coach Miguel Coley said.
