Petersfield look to fend off Sandals in derby match

Sandals South Coast and Petersfield FC square off this afternoon in an early Westmoreland derby in the second-round match of the Charley's JB Rum Western Confederation Super League at Petersfield Community Centre at 3 p.m., as both teams seek to keep a 100 per cent win record going at the other's expense.

Both teams posted identical 1-0 victories in the opening matches of the season and are among the leaders on 3 points. Sandals (formerly Sandals Whitehouse) defeated St James champions Faulkland SC 1-0 on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Petersfield tagged Holland United by a similar scoreline to be among the early leaders in the twelve team league.

2015-16 champions Granville FC are going after three points, after drawing their season opener 0-0 against Hopewell FC. They tackle Reggae Youths at the UDC playing field.

TOUGH TIMES AHEAD

Over at Jarrett Park, former league winners Wadadah FC are in for another tough time when they take on Faulkland, while Three Miles River FC battle Beaches Negril in another Westmoreland derby.

Sandals boast some serious experience, having lost in the final to Granville last season, but head coach Aaron Lawrence believes his team will not only get the better of Petersfield, but also prove a touch challenge for opposing teams during the campaign.

"It is very early to say where we will end up, but at the same time, we want to end up back in the final and take our chance. But that's some way off," said Lawrence.

"Right now, we have Petersfield on our minds, and that's an important three points to have. So we are going there to play some smart, attacking football, and once we take the chances that will present itself, we will win," Lawrence added.

Tomorrow, Hopewell will host Clarks Town FC at Orchard Field, while Holland welcome Montego Bay Boys and Girls Club to the Elleston Wakeland Centre to complete the weekend fixture.

Lupton Haughton of Clarks Town leads the goal scoring race after his hat-trick in Sundays match against Three Miles River and will be keen on bagging more against Hopewell.
