Big throw by Nedrick

Kevin Nedrick of Petersfield was the standout performer at the 34th STETHS Invitational held at the school in Santa Cruz yesterday.

First, he extended his season's best to 56.21 metres in the Class One discus. Then, with a peaceful afternoon breeze coursing across the school campus, he punched the shot out to 19.05 metres.

That mark improved on the best of the 2017 season, Nedrick's winning 18.85-metre effort at the Manchester High Charlie Fuller Memorial. His discus distance, also an improvement as he had gone 54.70 metres at the Big Shot Invitational last week.

That win was the top half of a Petersfield one-two as teammate Daniel Cope reached 53.87 metres.

Hydel High School showed good speed in the girls' 400 metres, with Shian Salmon, Abigail Brooks and Garriel Whyte posting the best times in Classes One, Two and Three, respectively, at 56.35, 56.42 and 57.53 seconds each.
