Blake donates tennis racquets

Ace Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake, through his YB Afraid Foundation, recently donated several high-tech tennis racquets to Tennis Jamaica, primarily for the use of schoolchildren who are engaged in the sport islandwide.

The presentation was made at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre on Piccadilly Road in Kingston, last Wednesday afternoon, and dozens of youngsters from high and primary schools were present for the ceremony.

Before presenting the racquets, Blake said that the YB Afraid Foundation was reaching out to several sports and was not confined to track and field.

"I love many sports, and any assistance I can give to them, to help them to grow, will be forthcoming. I love tennis, and my favourite players are the Williams sisters, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer," Blake said.

He recalled that he was in Treasure Beach a few years ago, when the Williams sisters visited Jamaica, and he had presented them with some headsets.

He was later presented with copies of the Tennis Jamaica magazine ON SERVE, which had photographs of that presentation.

"A lot of youngsters from high schools and primary schools are now playing the game, and I am happy to see so many of them here today. I am sure that those who get these racquets will make good use of them," he added.

Timothy Spence, who heads the YB Afraid Foundation, pointed out that the Babolar branded racquets are top grade and autographed by Nadal.

Aswad Morgan, the first vice-president of Tennis Jamaica thanked Blake for what he called a "fine gesture" and said that he was " sure that the recipients will benefit tremendously."
