Nine local players in squad for Peru friendly

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) has named nine local players in a 20-man squad for a friendly international game between Jamaica senior men's team and Peru next Monday at the Stadium Monumental de la Universidad in Peru.

Veteran attacker Jermaine 'Teddy' Johnson of Tivoli Gardens is among the players selected from local clubs in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL). The other local players that will make the trip are Michael Binns (Portmore United), Owayne Gordon (Montego Bay United), Ewan Grandison (Portmore), Ladale Ritchie (MBU), Rosario Harriott (Harbour View), Shamar Nicholson (Boys' Town), Fabian Grant (Harbour View), and Tevin Shaw (Tivoli).

Johnson, who topped the goalscoring in the 2016-17 RSPL season with 16 goals, is back in the Reggae Boyz squad for the first time since he made an appearance as a substitute against Panama in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

He has made 74 appearances for the national team and scored nine times. Johnson turns 37 on June 25.

The overseas-based players selected include Alvas Powell (Portland Timbers), Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union), Cory Burke (Bethlehem Steele), JeVaughn Watson (New England Revolution), Oneil Fisher (Seattle Sounders), Ryan Thompson (Central FC), Romario Williams (Charleston Battery), Sergio Campbell (Piitsburgh Rivermounds), Shaun Francis (San Jose Earthquakes), Kemar Lawrence (New York Red Bulls) and Jermaine Taylor (Minnesota United).

Theodore Whitmore is the head coach, and Jerome Waite is the assistant coach.
