Sport Ministry hosts intellectual property seminar
THE Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston will host an Inter-Regional Conference on the 'Strategic Use of Intellectual Property in Sport'.
The two-day event starts today and will be hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), Geneva, and the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO).
The four main themes of the function will be: the competitive nature of the Sports Industry, Intellectual Property Rights in the Sporting Arena, Athletes Support Framework, and Athletes' Focus.
The Honourable Olivia Grange, who is the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, will be one of six main speakers at the conference.
The other speakers are Karl Samuda, minister of industry, commerce, agriculture and fisheries; Jim Bagshaw, vice-president of the Calgary Flames, Canada; Carol Simpson, Head Caribbean Section Regional Bureau,WIPO; Carlene Edwards, Sales, Promotions and Events Manager of JN Bank; and Rashid Hall, Sponsorship Coordinator, Creative Artists Agency (CAA) (UEFA 2020, Switzerland).
