CUC target another win in JCA Super League
The Combined Universities and Colleges (CUC) will seek to extend their lead in the new two-day Jamaica Cricket Association Super League, when they face the Danza Hyatt-led Central Titans at UWI Bowl.
Set for a 10am start, the game will see the CUC looking to extend their lead in the standings.
The Shane Brooks-conditioned unit last week recorded the first and only outright win of the six-franchise team tournament last weekend when they stopped the star-studded Eastern Tigers at Melbourne Oval.
This has propelled CUC to seven points, three clear of the Titans, Western Warriors and Southern Seals.
The Northern Panthers (two points) and Tigers (one point), round off the table.
"It's good going for us thus far and the aim heading into the match is to build on that momentum," expressed West Indies and CUC batsman, Chadwick Walton.
"In our last game we played some disciplined cricket, and thought we could have been better, I am happy for the win."
In recording victory, CUC were led by big half-centuries from Walton and captain Paul Palmer, while their bowling saw off-spin all-rounder Oshane Walters claiming seven wickets, and left-arm spinner Odane Vassell a four-for.
The Titans, in the meantime, will be hoping to build on their first innings success against Northern Panthers last weekend.
The Milton Thomas-conditioned unit saw Jamaica Tallawahs batsmen Trevon Griffith scoring 97 and Kennar Lewis emerging as their top batsmen from the contest with returning leg-spinner Odean Brown claiming a four-wicket haul.
"We are playing the leaders, which means that we have to be in top shape," said Thomas.
"As a newly-formed franchise team, we are starting to gel and playing for each other, and once we continue, I can only see us growing from strength to strength," he added.
In other matches in Round Three of the 10 round championship, Eastern Tigers will meet Southern Seals at Melbourne and Western Warriors at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium.
