Coach Henry hails Sunshine Girls
Jamaica's interim coach, Sasher-Gaye Henry, said the dedication and determination of the Sunshine Girls were the key factors which led them to the silver medal at the Fast5 World Series in Melbourne, Australia.
Henry told The Gleaner on Monday night, shortly after the team arrived home, that she was happy with the general attitude of the Girls during the two-day championships.
"I think it was an excellent performance from all the girls," said Henry. "They worked hard despite the difficult circumstances that we had in terms of our preparations and so I am really excited for them.
"The future looks bright for us and that's a good thing because they have that consistency and I like that and the fact they lost the final, they were very disappointed. That is a good way forward and now they are thinking about winning and winning at all cost," Henry added.
The Sunshine Girls were unbeaten in all their matches leading up to the final with victories against main rivals Australia, New Zealand and England.
However, in the battle for the gold involving the top two teams, Jamaica lost 34-29 to England.
Best-ever finish
The second-place finish matches the best-ever placing by the team in international competitions after they also finished second at the Fastnet World Netball Series in England in 2009.
Henry added that the girls have shown that they are willing to put in the work, and so it is now up to coaches and management staff to assist them in getting whatever is needed so that they can carry over this success in the 'Test' arena.
"They are going to be sticking together, that is for sure and some of them will be going overseas and so that is a good thing for us," she said.
"The way forward now is that we just have to put in more work and then we will see the better results in the future," Henry concluded.
