Rusea's principal praises fans, coach Reynolds

Principal of Rusea's High, Linvern Wright, yesterday hailed the school's supporters in Lucea, Hanover, as they celebrated winning the 2017 daCosta Cup football title.

"One of the things they have to say is that they have two Christmases when Rusea's win the daCosta Cup," said Wright.

Rusea's ended their six-year drought on Saturday to add their 11th ISSA-FLOW daCosta Cup to their collection with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over preseason favourites Clarendon College at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Wright pointed out that the fans are really proud of the school's achievement and commended coach Vassel Reynolds for the difference he has made that resulted in their success.

"They (fans) are very proud. It really means a lot to them in terms of their self-esteem as a parish and that's one of the reasons why I think no other school has the following we have in football," said Wright.

"When they started out, I could see they had a problem understanding that a part of his (Reynolds') brand is humility, and when you look at the lack of hype among the boys even when they were defeating teams like STETHS, it's something to behold. The attitude of the players has been a central part of our success, and I think that has made the difference," he added.

Reynolds said while he has won quite a few trophies during his tenure as a coach, this one is very special to him as the school and fans are extremely passionate about football. He added that although they are celebrating their success in the daCosta Cup, they remain focused on the Olivier Shield play-off coming up Saturday.
