The Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has appointed a new meet director for the annual Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships.

When the five-day 2018 meet gets under way on March 20, former inter-collegiate president, Anthony Davis, will be the man charged with ensuring the smooth running of the meet. He replaces Glen Mills, who has been meet director since 1985.

Davis' appointment was announced at a meeting of ISSA at Wolmer's Girls School yesterday. The former national sprinter who has spent several years in track and field at the administrative level was introduced to the members as the new meet manager by, Colleen Montague, ISSA executive member and principal of Wolmer's Girls school.

Davis had high praise for Mills as he looked ahead to his new role.

"I have been working with Glen (Mills) for a number of years before I took a four-year break to study abroad. I

have been offered this position, and I am hoping I can demonstrate the same level of professionalism demonstrated by Mills over the years," said Davis.

He added: "I am looking forward to my new role. As with anything else, you have to prepare properly, and we have international standards to guide us. We will try to ensure that we comply with those standards as best as possible."

Mills said he hoped to still contribute in whatever way he can to ensure that the standard does not drop.

"I started in 1985 and took a small break in the early 1990s but resumed when Boys and Girls' Championships was combined. I have been asked to continue to serve by the organising committee in the technical area and it is left to the new director to decide where he wants me to serve," said Mills.

At yesterday's function, GraceKennedy recognised all the record breakers of the 2016 and 2017 Championships. More than $1.3 million was distributed. Each athlete received $25,000, which will go to a school project. Klao Bell-Lewis, head of Corporate Communications at GraceKennedy, made the presentations.
