TAMPA, Florida (CMC):

Jamaican forward Khori Bennett was one of two Las Vegas Lights players named to the United Soccer League Championship Team of the Week.

The 26-year-old former Wolmer’s Boys’ School player pumped in a brace of goals that enabled the Lights to come from behind and dismiss Miami FC 3-1 in their Week 14 match this past Saturday on home soil at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The hosts were trailing 1-0 after 25 minutes, but there were strikes on either side of the half-time break from Bennett, plus another from the Lights captain Valentin Noël that helped the home team to overcome the deficit and clinch their first win in five matches.

Bennett and Noël were named in the Team of the Week, and Lights head coach Dennis Sanchez was named Coach-of-the-Week.

The Jamaican joins defenders Gaoussou Samaké (Week 4) and Emrah Klimenta (Week 5) on the list of players who have earned their first Team of the Week appearances this season, while Noël and Sanchez join defender Shawn Smart (Week 4, Week 5) as returnees to the list after earning honours in Week 4 and Week 5 respectively.

Lights defender Gennaro Nigro also earned a spot on the Team of the Week bench for his efforts contributing to the club’s first win in eight matches.

The Lights are 10th of the 12 teams in the Western Conference standings on 15 points from four wins, seven losses, and three draws.
