Fraser-Pryce opens season today at French Foray
Eight-time Olympic medallist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is set to open her season in the women’s 100 metres today at the JAAA Olympic French Foray III meet at the Stadium East. The meet starts at 4:30 p.m.
With just two weeks to go to the JAAA/Puma National Junior and Senior Championships, all eyes will be on Fraser-Pryce as she aims for a confidence booster ahead of the June 27-30 ‘trials’ to select Jamaica’s team for the Paris Olympics. Fraser-Pryce had her last competition at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, last year.
The 100m should be interesting as it has also attracted national representatives Shashalee Forbes, Jura Levy and Jodean Williams and schoolgirls Sabrina Dockery of Lacovia High and Shanoya Douglas of Mushett High.
Following his season’s best of 10.00 seconds at last week’s meet, the very busy Ackeem Blake of Dynamic Speed Track Club will be hoping to maintain his good form going into the National Championships. He is the second-fastest Jamaican in the event this year and he will be aiming for a sub-10 seconds clocking.
Blake’s training partner Sandrey Davison is also down to contest the event which will also include Kadrian Goldson, national junior record holder Bouwahjgie Nkrume, Jelani Gordon and Deandre Daley of Herbert Morrison Technical.
World Championships 400m finalist Candice McLeod, who is coming off an injury, will be hoping for an improved performance following a lukewarm performance a week ago while Roneisha McGregor will also be hoping to step up her performance when both contest the women’s 400m. Ashley Williams of SprinTec and Ronda Whyte of UWI Mona are also down to compete in the one-lap event.
Other events on the track include the 200m for both males and females along with the women’s 100m hurdles and the men’s 110m hurdles.
Field events down to be contested will include triple jump, shot put and discus.
