Former Sunshine Girls captain Simone Forbes will face off with incumbent Cora Ricketts for the post of second vice-president of Netball Jamaica (NJ) at today's annual general meeting (AGM), which will be held at the HEART Academy in Half-Way-Tree.

Forbes, who is also set to go up for the post of director, said that she has done a lot of work campaigning and it is now up to the members to decide.

"I am feeling optimistic," said Forbes. "The campaign has gone good because we have contacted quite a few persons. We have been on social media, and we have contacted the clubs directly to let them know how we feel and what we intend to do."

She added: "The individuals and teams that have nominated me believe that I can strengthen the team and make a meaningful contribution, and that's all I am focused on doing, whether it's as a director or a vice-president because I am not hanging on titles."

NO SURPRISE

On the other hand, Ricketts said that she welcomed the challenge of Forbes at today's AGM.

"It's a voluntary job, and so I don't feel any way to be challenged by anybody," said Ricketts. "I am not surprised by this at all because nothing surprises me."

Ricketts added that she was very optimistic that she would retain the post.

"If you are going in a competition, you are expecting to win, so that is my expectation," said Ricketts. "But win, lose, or draw, I will accept whatever the situation is at the end of the day."

Forbes will face Wayne Shaw and Lionne Phinn for the two available director spots.

Shaw, who is the president of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association, has been a director for the past two years, while Phinn is a vice-president of the Business House Basketball Association.

NJ's president Dr Paula Daley-Morris is expected to return unopposed for her second term, while Tricia Robinson will return as vice-president.

The AGM was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed. All paid-up clubs and affiliates as well as lifetime members are eligible to vote at today's AGM.
