UWI's Spence delighted to beat former teammates

Cavalier's Michael Spence is still celebrating after scoring the winning goal against his former teammates at UWI FC yesterday.

Spence netted the all-important goal in the 57th minute in Cavalier's 1-0 victory in the Red Stripe Premier League match. A defensive blunder by UWI FC's central defender Taniel McKenzie left Spence with a clear run-on goal and he made no mistake.

"The feeling is very great as last week, we lost 1-0," Spence said.

"We were hungry for this victory, so all the guys put in 120 per cent, so the victory was not just about me - it's all about the guys.

"It was always a motivation to play against some of my former teammates who played for UWI today. I am also from the nearby August Town community so that is added pleasure for me," the striker shared.

Spence's coach Rudolph Speid was delighted with the victory.

"We enjoy playing away, I think we have only lost one game away, so it was important to win this game at UWI," Speid said.

"We had lost our way in the middle of the season by not playing our passing game. Today, we really tried passing the ball around and we got the better of UWI. It could have been by a greater margin if we had taken all our chances," he added.

UWI's coach Marcel 'Fuzzy' Gayle said his team gave a lacklustre display.

"It is always difficult for us in a midweek game as some guys had exams and work commitment," Gayle said.
