UWI FC halt losing run

They got only a point but Andrew Peart, assistant coach of UWI FC, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance yesterday. A 1-1 draw against Montego Bay United at the Mona Bowl snapped a three-game losing run in the Red Stripe Premier League.

UWI FC took the lead when striker Patrick Brown tapped home a pass from Girvon Brown in the 24th minute. However, that strike was cancelled out when Owayne Gordon netted a penalty for the visitors in the 40th minute.

Peart said it was a better display from his team and it halted a very poor run.

"I am satisfied with the performance today. It was better than the three previous ones. We got some good chances but failed to add to the lead," Peart told The Gleaner.

"We will just have to continue with the work and hope that the finishing gets better in the games to come," he added.

Montego Bay United's coach, Dillon Thelwell, said the point earned was a good one on the road.

"We came here and went behind early but fought back and got a goal. We are pleased with the point earned away from home. The team has been going through some changes, so it is a work in progress," Thelwell said.

Thelwell singled out the performance of Gordon, who is back at the club after a stint in the United States Soccer League (USSL).

"He came into the team and really performed well in his first game of the season. We are looking for him to provide leadership in the team," Thelwell said.

UWI have moved to 25 points while Montego Bay United are on 21 points.
