All is well for Speid's Cavalier

The 2017-18 Red Stripe Premier League season has, so far, been a good one for Cavalier, and technical director Rudolph Speid said yesterday that they had achieved their objective after the team club finished the preliminary stage second round in fourth position.

Cavalier shared points with hosts Tivoli Gardens in a 1-1 draw at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex in west Kingston.

"Our objective in the second round was to finish in fourth. It is exactly where we wanted to be entering the third round. We are working to keep the gap between us and the seventh-place team," Speid told The Gleaner.

He added: "We have done well in the second round. I think we have been unbeaten in the last six games. We have not lost away since the first game of the season and we have played better away than at home. The aim is to continue improving as a team," he shared about his young team, which has an average age of 22.

Tivoli's substitute, Colorado Murray, put the home side in the lead when he netted in the 68th minute for his seventh goal of the season. However, that strike was cancelled out by Cavalier's substitute, Kaheem Parris, in the 73rd minute.

Tivoli's coach, Omar Edwards, praised his goal scorer after the game.

"He (Murray) came off the bench because he has just returned from an injury that kept him out for three games," Edwards said. "The end result is not a true reflection of the game. We managed to create a number of chances but gave up a soft goal."

Tivoli remained in third on 37 points, while Cavalier are in fourth on 35 points in the 12-team league.
