No real cause to postpone JABA elections

Interim Jamaica Basketball Association president Calvin Martin said the postponement of the association's annual general meeting (AGM) and presidential elections set for the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) on Sunday is no cause for concern and that the delay was a result of a few administrative issues which need to be sorted out before hand.
Although not wanting to go into details, Martin insisted that the delay could not be caused by anything major, as they have only rescheduled for a week.
Long-time basketball admini-strators Major Clifton Lumsden, Paulton Gordon, along with Western Basketball Association member Khurt Comrie and former Seattle Storms player and WNBA title winner Simone Edwards are the candidates expected to contest the presidency, and according to Martin there was no backlash from the candidates over the delay.
"I really never asked any of them [for permission to delay the elections] to tell the truth but they (candidates) said nothing at all," he said.
The elections have now been rescheduled and will go ahead next week Sunday, March 4, at the same venue starting at 11 a.m.
"It's just a week delay, so this is nothing major," he added.
OTHER CONTESTS
Meanwhile, Galton Taylor will contest the post of vice-president against Trevor Poyser. The role of secretary will be a battle between Douglas Reid and Pauline Richards, while Kevin Alexander will challenge Daisy Pedley for the post of treasurer.
The president's position was left vacant back in October after Mark Broomfield resigned from the job after little over a year-and-a-half at the helm and as a result Martin, a veteran administrator, was thrust into the position.
However, the association will decide on a new leader when its delegates vote in a new president next Sunday.
