Tastee Inter-school Clay Challenge on today
The first inter-schools sporting clays competition for 2018 shoots off today with the inaugural Tastee Inter-school Clay Challenge at the Jamaica Skeet Club beginning at 10 a.m.
More than 70 young shooters are expected from ten schools including the top three from the 2017 junior shoot, namely Hillel Academy, AISK and Campion College.
The shooters will try to pick off 50 targets from eight stations while those with the top six scores will go after another 18 birds from three stations. That section of the competition is referred to as Super Six and represents the highest level of competition among the shooters as only the best shooters get to compete in that section. The shooter with the highest score will be declared the 'highest overall' winner (HOA). The others will be positioned in the classes that they competed in. The boys will compete in seven classes, namely Junior A, B and C; Sub Junior A, B, C and D while the girls will compete in two categories - Girls A and B.
The top shooters include Roman Tavares-Finson (HOA from the 2017 shoot), Zachary Chen, Peter Mahfood (who got a perfect 50 from the preliminary round at the last shoot), Zach Lazarus, Dipchand Jon Pierrie, Danzell Knight and Nathan Chin, who were all in the Super Six of the last tournament.
According to Khaleel Azan, national shooting coach "I am expecting the young shooters to give a good account of themselves on Sunday as most of them have been training and preparing for this inaugural Tastee Inter School Clay Challenge."
The sponsors for the challenge include title sponsor Tastee, Hawkeye, Tru Juice, Bigga, Wata, Tin Grinners Club of Jamaica, St. Mary's, Pure National Ice and Arts & Photo.
