Spectators at the National Stadium were left stunned and in disbelief, as the two favourites for the Class 1 Boys 100m title at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships suffered injuries in the showpiece event earlier tonight.

Both Calabar's Michael Stephens and Kingston College's (KC) Jhevaughn Matherson pulled up during the race, with Stephens unable to finish while Matherson hobbled across the line in seventh place. The race was won by Calabar's Tyreke Wilson in 10.21 seconds, with Ryiem Robertson of Jamaica College second in 10.28 seconds and Wolmer's Boys' Xavier Nairne third in 10.42 seconds.

St Elizabeth Technical High School's Sachin Dennis won Class 2 in a record 10.20 seconds ahead of KC's Terrique Stennett and STETHS' Conroy Jones. Class 3 saw a quinella as KC's Nkrumi Bouwahjgie and Adrian Kerr finish first and second respectively while Calabar's David Lynch was third. Bouwahjgie's 10.79 seconds and Kerr's 10.81 were both faster than the previous 10.85seconds record held by Matherson.
