Eight will be great! - Calabar principal Corcho already planning for 2019 Champs victory

Calabar High principal Albert Corcho said that plans are already in place for the school to maintain its dominance in the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' Athletics Championships.

The Red Hills Road-based school secured their seventh straight hold on the Mortimer Geddes Trophy on Saturday after topping the five-day championships with 368.50 points ahead of bitter rivals Kingston College (278).

Jamaica College (224.50), St Jago (146), St Elizabeth Technical (95), and Wolmer's (94.5) rounded off the top five.

Corcho told The Gleaner after Saturday's win that the school has already been making an assessment of the team's performance at Champs and will be much stronger next season.

"We are extremely happy that we have done it again, and next year it will be number eight," said Corcho.

"We are very confident because most of the boys that we have will remain with us come next year," he said.

"We have them for at least another two years and we believe that next year, and another year after that, we should be able to maintain the dominance where Boys' Champs is concerned," Corcho said.

He added: "It wasn't as close as last year, so I know that the other schools will be planning and coming twice as hard. So we will also go back to the drawing board and look at what worked for us and build on those to ensure that we defend out title," Corcho said.

He stated that he was very surprised by his school's margin of victory at the Championships.

"For me, the margin of victory is a little more than we expected, but it was a lot of teamwork coming together, and I think the boys were very focused this year," Corcho said.
