'Lukewarm' - Whitmore disappointed as Reggae Boyz held 1-1 by Antigua and Barbuda

National senior men's football team coach Theodore Whitmore was disappointed with the 1-1 draw with Antigua and Barbuda in a friendly international at Sabina Park yesterday.

Jamaica went ahead when Antigua and Barbuda central defender Akeem Thomas turned the ball past his goalkeeper Brentton Muhammad in the 50th minute. However, the visitors fought back and equalised in stoppage time, courtesy of Peter Byers.

"I am somewhat disappointed with the result. I think it was a lukewarm performance. We should have put the game away. We did not manage the game in the last 20 minutes. We had to make some changes, and that might have affected the flow, but the plan was always to give players chances to play," Whitmore said during a post-match press conference.

"It is a work in progress, and we will continue to build. I have to give credit to the Antigua keeper (Muhammad). He had some brilliant saves. We had some chances to score, and that is an area that we need to improve," Whitmore added.

"One of the things we were guilty of is not moving the ball fast enough. We played from side to side. We gave the opponent time to organise themselves," he also said.

"We always want to win every game; it is the nature of our players to want to win. We need to have more time doing drills with the players. It is lack of experience on our part," he pointed out.

Coach of Antigua and Barbuda, Rolston Williams was happy with the result.

"I am happy with the score. We wanted to take the fans out of the game by frustrating the team," Williams said.
