Carifta Games 2018 | Jamaica confirm Carifta dominance with strong relay performances

Jamaica picked up 32 medals (17 gold, 12 silver and 3 bronze) on Monday's final day of action at the Carifta Games in The Bahamas, ending with 84 medals overall, including 45 gold, 29 silver and 10 bronze, to again dominate their regional rivals.

The island's bid for a clean sweep in the 4x400m relays was, however, denied by a botched final exchange between Sanique Walker and Shiann Salmon in the under-20 girls event.

After building a big lead, the Jamaican baton fell when Walker was passing to Salmon and according to the officials, the wrong athlete picked up the baton afterwards.

There was, however, success in  the other three mile relays for Jamaica with the under-17 female quartet of Oneika McAnuff, Garrell White, Calista Taylor and Danielle Deer stopping the clock at 3:38.39 to win the gold medal.

Led by an outstanding opening leg from Zidane Brown, it was mere formality for Devonte Archer, Malachi Johnson and Raheem Scott, as the under-17 boys stopped the clock at 3:14.99 to again top the medal podium.

Male team captain Christopher Taylor ended the meet in style for Jamaica, after sprinting away from his rivals on anchor, to give the under-20 boys team the win in 3:06.62. The other members of the team, were Malik James-King, Dashawn Morris and Antonio Watson.
