Janieve Russell secured another Commonwealth Games gold for Jamaica after topping the field in the women’s 400m in Gold Coast, Australia.

In the men’s final, Jaheel Hyde clocked 49.16 to win the bronze medal, securing his first senior international medal.

Russell, the bronze medal winner in Glasgow four years ago, clocked 54.33 seconds inside the Carrara Stadium, to beat Scotland’s Eilidh Doyle, 54.80 and South Africa’s Wenda Nel, 54.96 to, this time, secure the top spot on the podium.

Ronda Whyte, 55.02, finished fourth, while Ristananna Tracey, 57.50 was eight.

Hyde had a blistering first 200m but the Youth and Junior standout could not get the better of Kyron McMaster, 48.25 from the British Virgin Islands getting the gold medal, with silver going to Bahamas’ Jeffery Gibson, 49.10.

The other Jamaican, Andre Clarke was seventh in 50.08.
