A good day for bankers
There will be no need for punters to dig deep into their pockets to land tomorrow's Sunrise Six at Caymanas Park. The opening event will prove competitive, but the remaining five races should go to the overwhelming favourites.
Race One, a 1200-metre race for four-year-old-and-up maiden fillies and mares, has attracted a largely out-of-form field of eight. Those with some recent form include LADY BUDGET, ROHAN'S CATTLEYA and THEGREATEXAGERATOR. All three are blessed with only average ability, however, and I will bypass them and move for FIRST SELECTION, who showed better-than-average ability in mid-2017. Last September, FIRST SELECTION, then ridden by tomorrow's rider, Robert Halledeen, clocked 1:15.4 when placing third to AGNIS T over tomorrow's distance.
READY TO RACE
NATURAL SELECTION - Cliffy's choice filly - went 1:19.3 for 1200 metres flat on the exercise track April 1, and, after three lacklustre performances this year, appears ready to again produce the form she showed last August and September.
Less than three weeks ago, RAGING PROSPECT beat the $350,000 claiming group by five lengths going 1800 metres. The nine-year-old gelding was claimed out of that March 24 race and was outclassed by CORALANDO among $450,000 claimers last Saturday. He has now been dropped to $250,000, claiming for tomorrow's second, and should go all the way over the 1820-metre journey. Champion jockey Omar Walker has the ride.
The third should close an early double for HALLEDEEN. BIG MISTAKE slammed $180,000 claimers by just over three lengths on March 21 and, although returning 3kg heavier, will still have too much pace for his rivals, including
the Johnny Wilmot-trained SUNDANCE, who has dropped down $250,000.
A.P.I. is tipped to win the fourth over 1000 metres straight, a distance over which she has done very well in the past. Last Saturday, A.P.I was caught stealing home by 2000 Guineas contender WITHOUT EXCEPTION but this is 200 metres shorter, and with nothing to really test her on the headlines early, she should get an easy lead before coasting home.
The fifth and sixth should go to SIMPLY OUTRAGEOUS and SHE'S SYMBOLIC. The former comes back very light after a courageous run among $550,000 claimers, while SHE'S SYMBOLIC is given one last chance to display her excellent exercise form on the track.
